Welcome to my Guide for householders crime-fighting and home protection. At the end of the day it is down to us.

This page features the THAMES VALLEY POLICE area of: Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. However, it is possible that other bordering constabularies may have their own pages in future.

Whilst the roll-out of "Neighbourhood Policng" across England and Wales is to be welcomed, the fact remains that government and town-hall policing priorities and strategies change, and officers frequently come and go. Furthermore there is no effective coordination between those representing the voluntary crime fighting sector (Neighbourhood Watch etc) and the police. And neither are we taken seriously,  trusted or supported.

In past ages the community and the "militia" (police) were one and the same: the ordinary citizens working together in rota  rooting out miscreants in their community.

Today the law abiding householder feels  threatened and let down. And the crime fighting volunteers (the backbone of intellegence led policng) feel ignored, betrayed  and powerless.

The essence of what we need to do is to protect ourselves with the legitimate tools at our disposal; work together; take precautions; be aware. By simple means we can make our communities no go areas for petty crime.

There is no magic wand. It is our homes and our streets and we must be aware of our duties and possibilities to protect them.

SIR ROBERT PEEL
The legal and constitutional essence of British policing which we should all remember is summed up by Sir Robert Peel- the founder of thr British Police force:
"The police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen
